WITHINGTON AND DIDSBURY SUSTAINABLE CHRISTMAS MARKET

As Christmas creeps closer, we wanted to give you a quick run-down of some of the things we’ve got lined up for our very own sustainable Christmas market we’re holding on Saturday 7th December 2019.

We’ve been working hard to bring together a unique set of gift ideas, all of which will be available alongside festive favourites such as mince pies and mulled wine.

First up, we’ve found a supply of purses, pouches, bags, phone cases and bracelets that are made from used car and bike tyres and inner tubes. The bags are durable and the tread patterns that shows through look great. And it’s brilliant to find products that make use of materials from something that would otherwise be landfill.

We also have a couple of purses that are made from Burmese plastic waste and newspapers. The colours of these are certain to add a finishing touch and talking point to your outfit.

These gift items are ethically made, in developing countries and have Fairtrade certification.

Beeswax wraps are a great way to eliminate pointless plastic food wrap and cling film from your kitchen. We’ve had these on our shelves since we opened and they’ve been one of our biggest sellers. We have special festive patterns and one that’s even big enough to keep your Christmas cake covered! For those that would prefer, we have vegan soy wax wraps available too.

Bath bombs make a great treat for someone who you’d like to spoil. The scents and salts make a solution to spend time soaking in. Flavours include honey, pomegranate, rooibos, saffron and sweet orange.

Everyone loves a sock based stocking filler, right?! We’ve got bamboo socks with lots of funky patterns to make sure your toes are on-trend.

Jungle Straws were one of the first suppliers we did business with - they laser etched our name into bamboo straws made ethically in Vietnam and we’ve been handing these out since we opened. We’ve finally finished our supply of freebies, but have just taken stock of their safety razors that share the same ethics.

Chocolate and Christmas go hand - who doesn’t remember (and love) getting a box of goodies and devouring them by 9am?! Well, now you can relive the gluttony in a guilt-free and environmentally friendly way thanks to The Future Taste of Chocolate. These boxes are filled with a range of festive shapes, such as Christmas trees, snowmen, Santa and candy canes. They’re filled with warming winter flavours like amaretto, rum, almond, cinnamon, cherry and walnut. Not for children, mwahahahahaaa!

You’re going to need to wrap your gifts in an ethical and sustainable manner - we’ve all seen the recent scary headlines about just how much wrapping paper is used briefly and disposed of at this time of year.

We’ve got a few of options:

  • The first is handmade Himalayan wrapping paper - it’s fair trade and vegan and is traditionally produced using low impact techniques.

  • Repurposed Sari wraps - squares of patterned cloth that make fine gift wrap.

  • Better still, we have a small number of Head in the Woods hampers that reusable rather than disposable. With these, the wrapping becomes part of the gift as they’ll find uses in the bathroom or bedroom of the recipient. A very limited number of these hampers are available at Lentils and Lather. If you purchase one of the hampers and three gifts to go inside you’ll be eligible for a 10% discount.

We look forward to seeing you at 50 Burton Road on Saturday!
